Edinburgh University Confucianism Study Society (CSS) is a registered charitable body (SC015800) founded by several culture-lovers and it has members committed from both the student and the broader communities.

Chinese New Year Buffet

On Wednesday, 28 January 2009, the CSS held its Chinese New Year Party at the Cairngorm Room, Pleasance. Through the commitment and hard work of everyone involved, it was a lovely event. The room was decorated with balloons and various traditional decorations, and the food was delicious and plentiful. CSS president, Guan H. Tang, addressed the participants, which included both members and non-members, and then initiated some fun games for everyone to play and meet other people - they were robust games but nobody ot hurt! New friends were made and lots of photos were taken.

Early Success of the CSS

On 30 July 2008, the CSS Executive, together with CSS Team Leader representative Ms. Yan Zhuang, had a very amicable and successful meeting with senior representatives of Shenzhen University - Prof. Bigong Zhang (President), Prof. Litian Gao (Director of International Office), Dr. Zhenxiang Cai (Director of Department of IT & Equipments), Associate Prof. Zhengwu Yao (Vice Dean of Normal College), Mr. Long Du (Director of General Service).

CSS Chooses Team Leaders

On 11 July 2008, the CSS Committee had a very positive and productive meeting with volunteer members and chose its first Team Leaders. Mr. Yinghui Wu is the Leader of both the IT Team and the Art & Design Team, Ms. Yan Zhuang is the Leader for the Interpretation Team, Ms.

Principal's Fund Awarded

Professor O'Shea has granted the CSS the University of Edinburgh Principal’s Fund, which will support members of the executive to attend and present at the Beijing Forum 2008.

Meeting with the President of Peking University

On 23 June 2008, the CSS Committee met Professor Xu Zhihong, the President of Peking University, at Playfair Library Hall after his presentation on “China’s Current Development in Higher Education, Progress and Challenges”.

Professor Xu fully appreciates the main purpose of the CSS and is willing to support its expanding mission. He strongly encourages the CSS contributing creatively to the collaboration between University of Edinburgh and Peking University, as well as links between the UK and China.

Visit to the Chinese Consulate-General in Edinburgh

The CSS Committee visited the Chinese Consulate-General in Edinburgh on 17 June 2008. Three members of the Committee met with Consul General Xiutian Tan, Head of Staff and Consul Libei Li and Vice Consul Yufeng Shi, to discuss if the Consulate-General could facilitate the CSS introduction to the Chinese communities in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the other parts of Scotland.
